Bettie Serveert plays Palomine

“The sun will always shine on this palomine.” Op de eerste tonen van deze tijdloze rocksong betrad ik zaterdag Paradiso. Bettie Serveert bestaat deze zomer twintig jaar en viert dat met enkele concerten waarin de Nederlandse band het befaamde debuutalbum Palomine (1992) integraal speelt. Vorig weekend stonden ‘The Betties’ op het Vlielandse festival Into The Great White Open, dit weekend dus in de Amsterdamse poptempel. Natuurlijk, het was een trip down memory lane, met de oorspronkelijke drummer Berend Dubbe (nu Bauer) achter de drumkit. Hoe nostalgisch ook, Bettie Serveert speelde songs als Tomboy, Balentine, Kid’s Allright en Brain-Tag nog even urgent en dynamisch als begin jaren negentig, alsof ze net geschreven waren. Goede nummers doorstaan de tijd. Het concert in Paradiso maakte duidelijk dat het album Palomine de tijd integraal heeft doorstaan.
